Frequently asked questions
What does a JSON formatter do?
It re-indents JSON so each key and nested level sits on its own line, which makes it readable. The data does not change, only the whitespace.
What are the most common JSON errors?
Trailing commas after the last item, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted keys, and comments. Standard JSON allows none of these.
What is the difference between formatting and minifying?
Formatting adds line breaks and indentation for humans. Minifying removes all optional whitespace to make the file smaller for sending over a network.
Is my JSON sent to a server?
No. Parsing and formatting happen in your browser, so API responses and config files stay on your device.
