Frequently asked questions
How is automation ROI calculated here?
Monthly impact equals the manual labor cost you avoid (hours times hourly rate) minus the monthly cost of the tool doing that work instead. A positive number is a net monthly profit from automating; a negative number means the tool costs more than the labor it replaces.
What counts as an hourly rate?
Use whatever rate reflects the real cost of that person’s time. For an employee, a loaded rate (salary plus benefits and overhead, divided by working hours) gives a more accurate picture than base pay alone.
Does this include setup or onboarding time?
No. This is a simple ongoing monthly comparison. A one-time setup cost would need to be amortized separately and isn’t part of this calculation.
