Frequently asked questions

How is GPA calculated?

Multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours, add those totals, then divide by the total credit hours. A 3-credit A (4.0) contributes 12 quality points.

What is the difference between semester GPA and cumulative GPA?

Semester GPA covers one term. Cumulative GPA combines every term, weighted by credit hours. Enter your earlier GPA and credits to get the cumulative figure.

What GPA scale does this calculator use?

The standard unweighted 4.0 scale with plus and minus grades. It does not add extra points for honors, AP or IB courses.

How do I see what grade I need to raise my GPA?

Credit-heavy courses move the average most. Add a hypothetical course with the grade and credits you expect and recalculate to see the effect.
